The Castle
for an unforgettable holiday
Amongst Valtenesi’s castles, Moniga’s one is surely one of the best-preserved especially if we consider the external walls. The internal houses are aligned along three parallel alleys (Ohana is located inside the central one) and they’ve been private residences until now.
The surrounding wall, almost rectangular-shaped, is accessible from the only door obtained from the dungeon, today become a bell tower. In several wall parts, we can see many linear and round embrasures, suitable for the use of bows, arrows and fire weapons that were placed like that to protect the castle’s sides.
The well-preserved walls are protected on their corners from four round towers, open from the inside and provided with embrasures for the defense. The patrol walkway, once was made of wood and nowadays is disappeared, used to run along the walls at the same height of the blackbirds flying.
During the summer, the Castle hosts several events and shows: outdoor cinema, theatre festival, concerts, as well as a large number of fairs dedicated to the wine and many other luxury local products.
