Moniga del Garda
a magic place for your holidays
Seems like Moniga comes from the name of the Greek goddess Diana Munichia, which was venerated during the ancient times. However, some people think it comes from the Germanic term “morn” which means, “Exposed to the morning”. Surely, we know that Moniga has been populated since the Bronze Age thanks to the pile-dwellings found in the area “Porto”.
Even if in the last decades the village has been in expansion following the natural touristic development, its ancient part still preserves its narrow alleys characterized by gorgeous balconies in bloom and scented jasmine fields. The city center has preserved its rustic appearance that had characterized Moniga for two centuries and, over the old front doors, we can see the farmer houses yards still ready for welcoming the local products.
Moniga del Garda is located in the middle of the Valtenesi, an area famous for the its great food and its wine “chiaretto”, a typical rosé wine for which Moniga was renamed “City of the Chiaretto”.
Despite its dimension, Moniga offers to its guests a several number of activities and sports to be played both on the land and in the water.
Near the equipped beaches where you can sunbathe, Moniga offers many tennis and golf fields, soccer fields, well-organized cycle lanes and several historical/naturalistic pedestrian paths.
